Carrie was born and raised in Chatham, attended St. Ursula School and then John McGregor Secondary School where she was a multi-sport athlete, winning JMSS Female Athlete of the Year Awards in each of her last three years. In April of 1987, she accepted a full-ride scholarship to play basketball at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Carrie excelled at GVSU, being named to Division II All American Teams in her last 2 years. In the spring of 2000 Carrie was inducted into the GVSU Hall of Fame.

Career Highlights

John McGregor Secondary School: 1982 – 1987

Grade 9 – was unanimous county all-star in junior basketball – competed in OFSSA in track and field – played on southwest regional under 18 team in Sudbury, and was named provincial MVP by the OLBA

Grade 10 – was unanimous county all-star in senior basketball, leading the team to Kent and SWOSSA championships as the Panthers became the first county girls’ team to compete at OFSAA – was named MVP for the Regional Juvenile (under 18) team

Grade 11 – broke her ankle at first basketball tournament in September and was unable to play until last game of season – played senior volleyball and competed at OFSAA track and field – was named JMSS Female Athlete of the year

Grade 12 – unanimous county all-star in basketball- team won Kent, SWOSSA, and OFSSA “AA”, becoming first girls’ team to win provincial championship – named MVP at Jaycee Pink and White Tournament – named JMSS Female Athlete of Year for second time

Grade 13 – was county all-star – team won Kent and SWOSSA and placed 4th at OFSSA “AAA” – named JMSS Female Athlete of Year for 3rd time – in January, was named to Ontario Women’s Team winning silver medal at Canada Winter Games in Sidney, NS – in April, accepted a full-ride scholarship to Grand Valley State University – in August, played for Ontario in Junior National Championship in Lethbridge, Alberta winning a bronze medal – averaged 20 points a game, was player of game against BC, and was named to the all-star team

Grand Valley State University: 1987 – 1991

Was a starter all 4 years

As a freshman – team won Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and first ever NCAA Division II championship

As a sophomore – was named defensive player of year

As a junior – team won conference championship – named All-American 4th team, All-GLIAC 1st team, and All-GLIAC Academic team

As a senior, named All-American 3rd Team, Academic All-American, All- GLIAC 1st Team, and All-GLIAC Academic Team

Carrie presently lives in Chatham with her husband Robert and their 3 daughters. She teaches and coaches girls’ basketball at John McGregor.

GVSU Career Stats

Points 1264 for 6th place, rebounds 829 for 4th place, steals 198 for 4th place, blocks 82 for 3rd place, and free throws made 342 for 1st place
